Fundraising initiative to bring fun and fitness across the Avon Valley

In their biggest fundraising venture this year, York Recreation and Convention Centre aims to bring fun and fitness opportunities to the Avon Valley, allowing smaller communities without access to recreation venues the chance to ignite their passion for a healthy and active lifestyle.

The funds raised will purchase a community fun and fitness trailer which will travel to smaller communities across the region, encouraging participation at various events. The proposed trailer will include a huge range of fun and fitness equipment and activities including physical and sensory games, fitness equipment, sports equipment, children’s equipment and team building activities.

In the venue’s community network forums held on 7th March, the initiative was announced and feedback was invited, whereby the importance of getting the community of York involved was prioritised.

“By working with the York community to bring this project to life, we hope to launch this community fun and fitness trailer to encourage physical activity across all ages and abilities in the Avon Valley,” said Glenn Paddick, Venue Manager for York Recreation and Convention Centre.

“We also want to ensure that a range of multicultural activities and equipment from around the world is considered, and also that this initiative caters for those who may have physical, sensory or cognitive challenges that require some adaption of their environment to be able to participate.

“This project is all about inclusion, and we invite both expressions of interest for sponsorship and community feedback to ensure we literally get this trailer on the road,” Glenn concluded.

In addition to applying for grants, fundraising initiatives to assist in the purchase of the trailer will include a fete with clubs fundraising for themselves and the trailer and a formal dinner with a silent auction, with details on how the community can get involved to come.

Local sponsors are invited to be involved whereby any sponsorship over $2,000 will ensure a company logo featured on the trailer or marquees. There is also the opportunity for individuals or businesses to sponsor their own piece of equipment inside the trailer.
